A community leader in Benue State has leveled a grave accusation against the Nigerian military, claiming soldiers were complicit in a recent deadly attack that left numerous residents dead.
The allegation was made following a brutal assault on a community in the state, where suspected militants overran the area, leading to a significant loss of life and property.
According to the distraught leader, the security forces, who are stationed to prevent such attacks, failed to respond during the assault. He alleged that the soldiers withdrew from their checkpoint just before the militants arrived, effectively allowing the massacre to proceed unhindered.
โThe soldiers who were supposed to protect us left their posts. They gave them a clear road to come and kill us,โ the leader was quoted as stating, painting a picture of blatant complicity.
This accusation has ignited fresh outrage and poses a serious challenge to the official narrative of the security forces’ efforts in the crisis-ridden Middle Belt region.
As of now, the Nigerian Army has not issued an official response to these specific allegations. The incident has intensified calls for an independent investigation into the security failures and the alleged role of personnel in the ongoing violence.
