A Lagos State High Court has issued an interim order for the forfeiture of the popular nightclub ‘Club Proxy,’ owned by socialite Mike Nwalie (aka Pretty Mike), to the federal government.
The ruling, delivered by Justice Akintunde Savage, follows allegations of drug-related activities at the upscale Ikeja-based establishment. The court’s decision is a temporary measure, granting the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) control of the property for an initial period of three months.
The NDLEA brought the motion ex parte, arguing that the nightclub has been used as a venue for illicit drug dealings. The agency presented evidence suggesting the club is a proceeds-of-crime asset, directly linked to the financing of drug trafficking operations.
This legal action is part of a broader, ongoing investigation by the NDLEA into the nightlife and entertainment industry’s alleged ties to narcotics. The interim forfeiture is a preventative step, designed to stop the potential sale or transfer of the property while the investigation continues.
Mike Nwalie, known for his controversial public stunts and significant influence in Lagos’s social scene, has not yet made a public statement regarding the court order. The ruling allows any interested parties to appear before the court to show cause why the asset should not be permanently forfeited to the government.
The case has sent ripples through the entertainment community, highlighting increased regulatory scrutiny on high-profile social venues.
